Vietnam has five billionaires named on Forbes list

Vietnam has five billionaires named on the 2019 list of the richest people in the world released by Forbes magazine on March 5, an increase of two from last year.

Pham Nhat Vuong, owner of Vingroup, is on the list for seven consecutive years, ranking 239th with a net worth of 6.6 billion US dollars.

CEO of budget carrier Vietjet Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao ranks 1,008th with a net worth of 2.3 billion US dollars. This is the third time she has been named on the list.

Tran Ba Duong, chairman of Truong Hai Auto Corporation (Thaco), is listed for the second time, ranking 1,349th with 1.7 billion US dollars.

Newcommer Ho Hung Anh, chairman of Techcombank, also ranks 1,349th in the world with 1.7 billion US dollars.

Chairman and founder of Masan Group Nguyen Dang Quang also makes to the list for the first time with a net worth of 1.3 billion US dollars, ranking 1717th in the world.

Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos is again number 1 in the world with 131 billion US dollars, followed by Bill Gates, Cofounder of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with 96.5 billion US dollars.

There are 2,153 billionaires on Forbes’ 2019 list, 55 fewer than a year ago. Of those, a record 994, or 46%, are poorer than they were last year. In total, the ultra-rich are worth 8.7 trillion US dollars, down 400 billion US dollars from 2018. Altogether 11% of last year’s list members, or 247 people, dropped out of the ranks, the most since 2009 at the height of the global financial crisis.-VNP
