National Assembly Chairman Visits Three European Countries

From March 9-17, 2013, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung paid official visits to Russia, Germany and Poland.
The visits to three European countries by National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung were of great significance. They showed Russian, German, and Polish belief and high appreciation for Vietnam. The leaders of the three countries proposed a series of discussions to further deepen and promote comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of politics, economics, culture, society and security-national defence. They also agreed to exchange views and support each other’s views at international forums, particularly on sensitive issues of mutual concerns.

In Russia, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung had meetings with the Chairman of the Russian State Duma, the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia’s Federal Assembly and the Russian Prime Minister. During their talks, the leaders shared common views on continuing to support each other at international forums on issues of mutual concern. Russia agreed with Vietnam’s viewpoints on issues related to the dispute settlement mechanism on the East Sea.

Regarding Germany which has just established a strategic partnership with Vietnam, Hung’s visit had special meaning as it was the first official visit made by a high-ranking national assembly leader between the two countries in the past 20 years. The visit ushered in a new period of parliamentary cooperation and sharing legislative experiences. The German leaders highly appreciated the potential of the Vietnamese community in Germany who have made contributions to the socio-economic development in Germany and served as a bridge of the relations and cooperation between the two peoples and nations. On this occasion, the German legislators invited NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung to attend the plenary session of the German National Assembly.

Meanwhile, the NA Chairman’s visit to Poland which has traditional relations with Vietnam marked a historical imprint. The visit’s result created a premise of great significance to promote relations and cooperation between the two countries. The two countries’ leaders agreed to boost the process of building a strategic partnership and create conditions for promoting the bilateral relations in all aspects. The Polish leaders also affirmed to give top priority to the relationship and cooperation with Vietnam and via Vietnam to develop cooperation with ASEAN members and countries in Southeast Asia.
