In 2014, Vietnam’s international integration activities were implemented synchronously effectively and had many much success in the key pillars of politics-security-defence, economics-science-education, and socio-culture. The highlight of Vietnam’s international integration in 2014 was the acceleration and then conclusion of free trade agreements (FTAs). At present, Vietnam is striving to complete negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership ( RCEP) Agreement and the agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).
Regarding Vietnam’s multilateral diplomacy by 2020, the Foreign Ministry proposed some major tasks, such as hosting large-scale multilateral events, actively contributing to maintaining peace and security in the region and the world; strengthening the ASEAN Community and its central role in the emerging regional architecture, utilising the signed FTAs; accelerating and concluding FTAs in the 2015-2020 period; increasing Vietnam’s contribution at multilateral economic mechanisms and forums; actively participating in and enhancing the role and efficiency of cooperation in culture, society, science-technology, education-training and other fields.
In terms of multilateral diplomacy, the government leader wants to actively contribute to and participate in international treaties and multilateral forums, propose initiatives and focus on sustainable development.

Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked the Government Office to make a report on resuming international integration activities in 2014 and development orientations and tasks for 2015, specifying the tasks of each ministry and agency and the Foreign Ministry to devise a draft directive of the Prime Minister on international integration in line with Resolution No. 22 set by the Politburo.
After two years implementing the Politburo’s Resolution No.22, Vietnam has obtained many important results in international integration, actively contributing to the country’s achievements and creating a favourable and stable environment for national development. International integration will help Vietnam receive much support from the international community for its cause of national construction and protecting territorial sovereignty and other legitimate interests.
Related to economics, international integration has contributed to expanding the export market with an annual export growth rate of 18%, providing jobs for labourers and mobilising all resources for investment and development. Integration in culture, education, science, techniques also have brought practical benefits for the country.
The Prime Minister also pointed out that in the context when science and technology have rapidly developed and the world has become a single market, Vietnam needs to comprehensively integrate further into the world with a specific focus on economic integration and actively join the international community in shaping the common playing rules for the best interests of the nation in both the short- and long-term.
