In Belgium, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Belgian leaders discussed and agreed on measures to strengthen bilateral ties in politics, foreign affairs, economics, culture, education-training, and science-technology.

To further trade and investment ties of the two countries, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Belgian counterpart Charles Michel reached a consensus to step up the building and implementation of projects in the fields of logistics, transport, green growth and space, while further facilitating the importing of each country’s goods.

At the EU’s Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung held talks with the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, had meetings with the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk and the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the EU leaders also agreed on measures to further enhance the relations in the fields of politics, economics, science-technology, energy and climate change.

On the occasion, the two sides signed an announcement on the official conclusion of negotiations on the EVFTA. It was a really important step on strengthening Vietnamese – EU relations and a milestone to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Vietnamese – EU diplomatic ties.

Addressing the joint press conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker stressed that the EVFTA is a new, balanced and comprehensive legal document. It promised to open a huge trade space and a free, transparent and favourable environment for enterprises and investors from both the EU and Vietnam.

In terms of the East Sea issue, the Belgian and EU leaders underlined the importance of maintaining maritime security, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea and affirmed that they support the stance of Vietnam on settling disputes by peaceful measures in accordance with universally recognised principles of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); not using or threatening to use force, avoiding acts that further complicate the situation and intensify tension; speeding up the implementation of measures to build up trust, ease tensions and prevent conflicts. In particular, all relevant sides must commit to not pursuing or having military actions in the East Sea; fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and the expeditious conclusion of an effective Code of Conduct on the waters (COC).
