Ireland seek close economic tie with ASEAN

Jakarta, April 16 (VNA) – The Republic of Ireland has a deep interest in boosting economic cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Ireland’s ambassador to the ASEAN, Kyle O’Sullivan made the statement when he presented his letter of credentials to ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh in Jakarta on April 15.

Ireland recently has expanded its presence in Southeast Asia via opening embassies at the ASEAN member countries, reflecting Ireland’s growing trade and investment in the region.

The ambassador confirmed that Ireland always supports ASEAN’s development and integration as well as the establishment of the ASEAN Community.

In his role of an ambassador, the diplomat committed to forging a close cooperation between Ireland and ASEAN.

ASEAN Secretary General Minh encouraged the ambassador to design specific cooperation activities that benefit both sides.
