BRF 2019: Promoting cooperation for common peace and prosperity

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc's attendance at the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) in Beijing from April 25-27 has affirmed Vietnam's goodwill and role in international economic integration. The trip produced important results on both bilateral and multilateral aspects.
PM Phuc's trip to attend BRF took place amidst the stable development and new strides in the two countries' relations.
Regular mutual high-level visits and meetings have helped enhance political trust between the two sides. Exchange and cooperation mechanisms at different levels and between their sectors and localities have continued to be implemented effectively. Economic, trade, investment and tourism partnerships have also kept growing while people-to-people exchange has been promoted strongly.

Under the theme "Belt and Road Cooperation: Shaping a Brighter Shared Future", the forum included a round-table meeting of leaders to discuss promoting connectivity, strengthening policy resonance, fostering green and sustainable development and implementing the UN Agenda 2030.
So far, 150 nations and international organizations have signed cooperation agreements related to the Belt and Road Initiative.

Vietnam has affirmed its willingness to cooperate with China and other countries in building and implementing programs and projects for common peace, development and prosperity in the principles of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefits and observance of the UN Charter and international law, respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the participating countries.

The forum achieved three major results, including issuing a joint statement that reaffirmed commitment to stepping up economic connectivity, trade liberalization and respect for multilateralism, with a focus on infrastructure, economy, science-technology, socio-culture and people-to-people exchange, said Foreign Deputy Minister Le Hoai Trung in an interview granted to the media on the Prime Minister's trip.
 
Secondly, participating leaders shared constructive views, contributing to new adjustments in Belt and Road cooperation in the direction of more balanced benefits for participating countries with an emphasis on the principles of equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit, he said. 
 
Thirdly, the high-level round-table meeting and 12 thematic session afforded participants chances to discuss cooperation opportunities and joint work across infrastructure connectivity, policy resonance, trade, finance, innovation and creativity, digital economy and green development.
 
Vietnam has participated in various cooperation mechanisms at sub-regional, regional, inter-regional and international levels, including the UN, APEC, ASEM, ASEAN and cooperation mechanisms in the Mekong region. The country has also joined the formation of new generation trade agreements, including the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
 
Speaking at the round-table meeting of the Forum on April 27, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc  valued efforts to promote connectivity and international economic links, including the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
 
He applauded the speech presented by Chinese President Xi Jinping, which highlighted important cooperative principles of cooperation of the BRI.
 
PM Phuc stated Vietnam will continue to cooperate with China and other countries to build forms of effective and win-win cooperation.
 
He highlighted the need to listen and respect opinions of small and big countries, adding that differences should be addressed through consultations and dialogues, to make their cooperation effective.
 
Cooperation should be transparent, open, sincere, mutually beneficial, and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, international law, he said, noting that this is the foundation for successful connectivity and development.

The Vietnamese leader shared Vietnam's experience in the 30-year renewal process, stressing that development is responsibility of each country and that the promotion of potential and strength along with international integration is the basis for successful cooperation.
 
He affirmed that Vietnam is focusing on promoting its socio-economic development and international integration, including cooperation with BRI; while making every effort to realize SDGs of the UN.
 
Many leaders to the event expressed their support for Vietnam's opinions stated in PM Phuc's speech.

In recent years, Vietnam has made strides in upgrading, expanding, and constructing new aviation infrastructures with significant investments from both the government and private sectors. However, the pace of development has not kept up with the national and international growth rates. Recognizing the need for a breakthrough to boost the economy, promote tourism, and attract investments, the Prime Minister has approved a comprehensive plan for the development of the airport system and terminals until 2030, with a vision to 2050.
