Volunteers support during the 2015 national high school exam

The Ministry of Education and Training has decided to combine the high school graduation exam and the university entrance exam into a single national high school exam from 2015 on. A rollout of the exam took place over from July 1 to 4, 2015, coinciding with the peak of the hot spell that the provinces and cities in the North and the Central region, especially the capital of Hanoi, were suffering.

Exam sites in Hanoi were crowded with relatives of examinees and representatives from social and charity organisations who came to support the exam-takers despite the extreme hot weather with temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius.  Volunteers had swung into action to help students find affordable rooms  and find the exam locations, ensuring traffic safety or providing cheap prepackaged lunches.

The “Give Strength during Exam Season” programme with about 12,000 volunteers have supported about 200,000 examinees and their families coming to Hanoi from five neighbouring provinces. The work of volunteers helps exam-takers deal with their needs and be more confident to take the exam.

Dong Ho paintings unique folk culture in Red River Delta

In the old days, Dong Ho paintings were used as decorations at every home in the northern delta during the Lunar New Year festival (Tet). Hanging a Dong Ho painting in the home at the beginning of a new year was believed to bring happiness and prosperity for the family. The folk paintings have become part of Vietnamese life through generations and are now used in the modern arts, including painting, sculpture, fashion and pottery.
