Rambutan trees are grown in the Dong Nai River basin, the south central region and the Mekong delta. Rambutan fruit is the favourite of many people as it has a delicious flavour and boasts diverse nutrients. Growing rambutans therefore brings high economic value for farmers in the South.

The beginning of the rainy season in the South coincides with the time rambutan fruit becomes ripe. The peak of the harvest falls in May and June, sometimes lasting into July. At that time, rambutan orchards are covered with bunches of bright red ripe fruit and become ideal picnic spots, attracting a lot of tourists coming to admire, pick up and enjoy fresh rambutan right in the orchard.
