Main Span of Palm Leaf-Shaped Pedestrian Bridge over Saigon River Joined

The main span of a palm leaf-shaped pedestrian bridge over the Saigon River in Ho Chi Minh City was joined on October 21, marking a key milestone in the project. The bridge will connect Bach Dang Wharf in the city center with the Thu Thiem New Urban Area.

The structure weighs about 3,400 tonnes, including a 187-meter-long steel arch weighing 1,400 tonnes and a specialized supporting frame weighing 2,000 tonnes. Its distinctive design, inspired by a nipa palm leaf, is intended to create a new architectural landmark along the river.

Once completed, the bridge is expected to improve pedestrian access between the two riverbanks and enhance connectivity between the existing city center and the Thu Thiem area, which is being developed into a modern urban hub.

The project also aims to create a public space for residents and visitors to enjoy views of the Saigon River and the city's skyline. The bridge is expected to become a new attraction, contributing to the urban landscape and supporting tourism development in Ho Chi Minh City.
