Imprints of A Successful National Election
Vietnam’s election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and to People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026 - 2031 term concluded successfully, with voter turnout reaching 99.69%. Thorough, coordinated preparation across the political system, combined with the application of digital technologies in data management and voter information, helped ensure a process that was democratic, transparent, and fully compliant with the law.
Observing voting activities on March 15, 2026, Party General Secretary To Lam said the election had been prepared well in advance across all fronts, ensuring that voters, regardless of circumstance, were able to exercise their rights at the ballot box. His remarks underscored the proactive, coordinated, and tightly organized approach taken by the entire political system.
By the close of voting, nationwide turnout had reached 99.69%. In several northern mountainous provinces, despite challenging terrain and logistical constraints, voters turned out in large numbers and completed voting early with exceptionally high participation rates. This outcome not only reflected public trust and a strong sense of civic responsibility, but also highlighted the effectiveness, discipline, and legality of the election’s organization.
The election also served as a practical benchmark for the organizational and administrative capacity of authorities at all levels, particularly at the grassroots. It demonstrated the system’s ability to safeguard democratic principles, maintain security, and integrate digital tools into electoral operations.
According to Bui Danh Tuyen, Director General of the Digital Transformation Department under the National Assembly Office, data was the cornerstone of electoral digitalization. Leveraging the national population database enabled the standardization of voter information, while digitized voter rolls and realtime data updates made the process more scientific, accurate, and transparent.

In practice, the adoption of technology not only reduced administrative burdens and minimized errors for election authorities, but also improved accessibility for voters, allowing them to more easily obtain information and fulfill their civic rights and responsibilities.
Voter information was also integrated into the VNeID application, enabling citizens to check their designated polling locations. Where necessary, voters could submit requests directly through the app to change their voting location in line with their residence or work arrangements on election day.

Speaking at the 4th conference of the Party Committee of the National Assembly for the 2025 - 2030 term on March 16, 2026, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized that the election’s success reflected a collective effort by the Party, the armed forces, 18 17 and the people. Under the leadership of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, and the Secretariat headed by Party General Secretary To Lam, the entire political system acted with urgency and unity in directing and implementing the electoral process.
Taken together, the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2026 - 2031 term stood as a clear success, grounded in careful planning, proactive coordination, institutional discipline, and strict adherence to the rule of a law in the political system.
