The central city of Da Nang is stepping up efforts to develop green tourism, introducing green accommodation criteria and promoting more efficient use of resources to make environmental standards a competitive advantage as it works towards becoming an international tourism destination.

With more than 2,400 accommodation establishments offering around 67,000 rooms, Da Nang has significant potential to improve resource efficiency, enhance service quality and strengthen its competitiveness. Green accommodation is expected to serve as a starting point for broader changes throughout the tourism service chain.

The city is encouraging hotels, resorts and other accommodation providers to adopt environmentally friendly practices, including saving electricity and water, reducing plastic waste, sorting waste at source and using sustainable materials. These measures not only help reduce environmental impacts but also allow businesses to cut operating costs and improve service standards.

The shift towards green accommodation is also in line with changing travel trends, as more visitors are paying attention to environmental protection and responsible tourism. By meeting these expectations, local tourism businesses can improve their appeal to international markets and build a stronger brand.

However, developing green tourism requires coordinated efforts from local authorities, businesses and communities. Alongside encouraging businesses to adopt green standards, Da Nang needs to improve environmental infrastructure, strengthen waste management and raise public awareness of sustainable tourism.

Through these efforts, the city aims to make environmental responsibility an integral part of its tourism development strategy, helping protect natural resources while creating a more attractive and competitive destination.
