Ballots on the Peak of Si Lo Lau
On March 15, the festive atmosphere of the election day spread through the border villages of Si Lo Lau - one of the most remote and challenging regions of Lai Chau Province, home to the Dao, Ha Nhi, and Mong. In the Dao language, Si Lo Lau means "12 levels of slopes," evoking a journey of winding, towering inclines to reach a land that remains a mystery even to many locals.
Despite the rugged terrain, 8,667 voters at 29 polling stations eagerly participated in
the election. From early morning, villagers dressed in beautiful traditional attire
arrived in full force, demonstrating a clear sense of responsibility and civic duty. Cao
Van Trinh, Vice Chairman of the Si Lo Lau Commune People’s Committee, said that to ensure
a democratic and lawful election, the locality established dedicated election committees,
implemented transparent consultative processes, and nominated exemplary candidates
who truly represent the will and aspirations of the people.
Thanks to the enhanced community outreach, public awareness has reached new heights. Many residents working far from home returned to cast their votes, placing their trust in capable delegates with deep ties to the community. The presence of female candidates has further raised expectations for more practical policies to improve the lives of local residents.
Atop Si Lo Lau, each cherished ballot is more than just a civic right; it is a symbol of faith and an aspiration for progress, contributing to a peaceful and sustainable future for the nation's borderlands./.
