Saigon Youth Trying Handmade Pottery
Following a demanding week of work and academic commitments, rather than opting for travel, amusement parks, cafe visits, or movie outings, a significant number of young people in Ho Chi Minh City come together at pottery workshops to immerse themselves in the art of shaping clay into exquisite handmade ceramic creations.
At the workshop, they sit around a wooden table, select their favorite designs, and start kneading and shaping the clay until it becomes smooth and flexible. They then shape it into various forms. After finishing the shaping, they can use brushes to decorate the raw ceramic products with patterns. The workshop staff will then take the products to be glazed, and the final step is to put them into the kiln and wait 15 days for the young participants come to pick up their creations.
Hoang Yen, a university student said, "After a period of focusing on my graduation thesis, I wanted to relax, so I invited friends to join me in this hands-on pottery experience. Sitting around a table with friends makes me feel relaxed and joyful and gives us time to chat".
Le Hoang Minh, one of the founders of the Saigon Pottery Center, said, "With my passion for pottery, I decided to start this handmade pottery model, bringing pottery opportunities to young people. In the bustling Ho Chi Minh City, those who love this craft can find a peaceful space to create, enjoy their hobbies, and pursue their passion seriously".
Handmade pottery is an opportunity to satisfy one's creativity, requiring a high level of concentration. It helps young people break free from their stresses. Even though the resulting products may not be perfect or have a few imperfections, they are crafted meticulously, patiently, and have a personal touch./.
