Promoting the Value of Vietnam’s ASEAN Clean Cities

The ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award is a prestigious prize within the ASEAN Tourism Awards, presented biennially in even-numbered years. To earn this title, a city must meet 108 criteria in seven categories, including environmental management, cleanliness, waste management, environmental awareness, green spaces, urban safety and security, healthcare, and tourism infrastructure that is appropriate and up to standard. The recognition of Vung Tau, Hue, and Quy Nhon as ASEAN Clean Tourist Cities provides an excellent opportunity for these cities to enhance their promotion efforts and attract more tourists, especially international visitors, for sightseeing and relaxation.

This marks the second consecutive time Hue has been named an ASEAN Clean Tourist City. Currently, Hue is regarded as one of Vietnam's most "livable" cities, with the “Green Sunday” movement gaining widespread momentum. Additionally, Hue’s tourism brands such as “Former Capital, New Experience” and its three iconic identities: “Festival City”, “Culinary Capital”, and “ Ao dai Capital”, have been key attractions for foreign visitors.

Perhaps for these reasons, by the end of 2024, the National Assembly officially approved the establishment of Hue as a centrally governed city, and Thua Thien Hue was chosen as the National Tourism Year host for 2025.

Quy Nhon, a Class I city in Binh Dinh Province, spans 285,49km2 and has the advantage of being a coastal urban area with a long stretch of shoreline. The development of community-managed models for coral reef and aquatic life conservation has helped preserve the ecological environment, adding value to Quy Nhon’s efforts to promote marine tourism.

With its pristine natural landscapes and numerous impressive tourist destinations, Quy Nhon stands out for its harmonious blend of mountains, rocky shores, fine golden sand, and serene blue seas. Its attractions, characterized by both distinctiveness and simplicity, create a picturesque and peaceful natural canvas. Some of its popular sites include Ky Co Beach, Gio Strait, Seo Island, Kho Island, Hai Giang, Ghenh Rang - Tien Sa, Quy Nhon Bay, and Thi Nai Lagoon. Along with these natural wonders, the city offers various tourism services such as urban sightseeing, adventure sports, community tourism, leisure tourism, and culinary tourism, creating a vibrant cultural mosaic for this coastal city. While focusing on urban development, Quy Nhon also emphasizes preserving its cultural and historical heritage.

As an ASEAN Clean Tourist City, Quy Nhon ensures favorable conditions for visitor safety, urban security, and health standards. Additionally, its infrastructure and tourism services meet required standards, with priority given to environmentally friendly investment projects and initiatives promoting green energy, renewable energy, and reduced environmental pollution.

Since 2020, Vung Tau has won this prestigious award three consecutive terms, with the current award valid from 2024 to 2026. The year 2024 holds significant importance as Vung Tau implements economic and social development objectives aligned with the resolutions of the 13th Party Congress, the 7th City Party Congress, and the city's fiveyear socio-economic development plan for 2021 - 2025. With a mix of opportunities and challenges, Vung Tau’s entire political system and citizens strive to uphold its “ASEAN Clean Tourist City” title and fulfill its economic and social development goals for 2024./.
