The urban railway project is a railway system currently under construction, integrating subways, tramways, and monorails. The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 510km.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has announced the official launch of the metro line No.1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) by the end of 2024. The line operates with 200 trips per day, with trains running at speeds of 110km/h on elevated sections and 80km/h in underground sections. The journey from Ben Thanh Station to Suoi Tien Bus Station takes just 29 minutes. The next line, the metro line No.2, is expected to be operational by 2030.

According to Resolution 49 of the Politburo on the development strategy for Vietnam’s railway transportation through 2030, with a vision to 2045, Ho Chi Minh City aims to complete 355km of metro lines by 2035, surpassing the previously planned 183km. Additionally, the city is targeting the completion of the entire 510km metro system by 2045.
