A Taste of Hanoi Memory
Making its debut in 1958 by Hoan Kiem Lake in the city’s center, Trang Tien ice cream is not just a refreshing treat, but Hanoians’ cherished memory that honors the simplicity yet charm of the capital’s food and culture.
As ice cream has grown diverse in type and flavor today, Trang Tien’s has kept its simplicity in shape and taste. A small stick of mild green rice, creamy mung bean, rich coconut or smooth chocolate has become a cherished part of life for many Hanoians.
Trang Tien ice cream is also distinctive because of its “eating standing up” culture. At the stand at 35 Trang Tien street, ice cream lovers queue in long lines, waiting to enjoy their favorites right at the shop or during a stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake. This simple habit has created a unique scene of Hanoi life.
From September 15, the shop at 35 Trang Tien closed but Hanoians can enjoy their familiar treat at three nearby locations: 18 Hang Bai, 44 Trang Tien and 18 Ngo Quyen, all around Hoan Kiem Lake.
The brand is also expanding nationwide, with more than 400 retail outlets, bringing the taste of Hanoi to ice cream lovers nationwide.
In 2023, TasteAtlas named Trang Tien among the world’s 100 legendary ice cream shops.
