VNA launches campaign towards national sea, islands

Hanoi, May 27 (VNA) – The Vietnam News Agency (VNA)’s Trade Union on May 27 launched a campaign titled “All for national sea and islands” to fully promote the strength and unity for the national construction and defence.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, VNA General Director Nguyen Duc Loi stressed that China’s illegal placement of its Haiyang Shiyou-981 drilling rig in Vietnam’s continental shelf and exclusive economic zone gravely infringes the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Vietnam has carried out drastic measures in safeguarding its territorial sovereignty on the basis of international law in order to force China to get the rig out of Vietnam’s waters, while maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for the country’s development, he stated.

Loi asked VNA reporters and editors to fully cover news related to the national sea and islands.

He also called on all of the staff to contribute at least one day’s wage to a fund in support for Truong Sa people and soldiers.

At the ceremony, the VNA representative office in the Republic of Korea sent nearly 80 million VND (3,760 USD) raised by the Vietnamese community there to the fund.
