Vietnam’s Imprints at APEC 23

The recent 23rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting in the Philippines (from November 13-19, 2015) marks a new phase of “sustainable development” in cooperation of APEC. State President Truong Tan Sang actively participated in and made substantial contributions to the success of this year's summit.
At the summit, State President Truong Tan Sang was a special guest and key speaker at important discussing sessions, especially the APEC Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Summit and the first plenary session on “Inclusive growth through regional economic integration”.

The Vietnamese leader asserted his determination on continuous innovation, extensive and intensive reform, and implementation of the UN’s sustainable development goals (SDG). In the meantime, he made several realistic proposals for the maintenance of peace and stability in the region for development which were highly appreciated by members. The State President also stressed the necessity of giving priority to sustainable development, poverty reduction and hunger elimination, narrowing the developmental gap, food security, water management, agricultural development and disaster response, among others.

On the sidelines of the APEC Summit, State President Truong Tan Sang had many meetings with leaders of APEC, including the Philippines, Russia, Australia, the US Canada, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Brunei, Chile and Peru, to thoroughly exchange measures to foster bilateral relationships.

On this occasion, State President Truong Tan Sang and Filipino President Benigno Aquino III witnessed the signing ceremony of the joint communiqué on the establishment of the Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the Philippines, thus further enhancing the cooperative relations and political trust between the two countries.

In the Philippines, the State President spent time meeting with representatives of regional and global leading groups in order to promote  an impressive image of a reforming Vietnam which is integrating into the world through the conclusion of negotiations for several FTAs, especially TPP with the participation of 12 out of 21 member economies of APEC.

It can be said that the success of APEC Summit 23 is of important significance, opening up opportunities for growth and development in Asia-Pacific. It also helps Vietnam, the host of APEC Summit in 2017, better prepare for the event.
