Vietnamese musicians to attend Asian Orchestra Week in Japan

Hanoi, September 26 (VNA) – The Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) is joining musicians from all over the Asian-Pacific region for the Asian Orchestra Week in Tokyo, Japan, from October 3-9.

During the event, the Vietnamese orchestra will perform the nocturne “Tieng Vong” (roughly translated as “Echo”) composed by Do Hong Quan, Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians Association, in 1995 to commemorate the 20 th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam.

They will also perform Beethoven’s Symphony No.7 under the command of conductor Tran Vuong Thach.

First held in Japan in 2002, the annual Asian Orchestra Week is Asia’s only musical festival for professional symphony orchestras.

This year is the second time HBSO participates in the event, after first being invited to perform as part of the festival in 2008.

Before travelling to Japan, the artists are performing the two selected pieces as part of the Youth Melody programme in HCM City on September 29.
