Vietnamese, Cambodian foreign ministries hold 4th exchange

Phnom Penh, September 12 (VNA) – Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Vinh and Secretary of State of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ung Sean co-chaired the 4th exchange session between the two ministries on September 10-12.

In their discussions in Phnom Penh, the officials affirmed their continuous high regard for the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia and declared to boost their efforts to foster bilateral ties.

They agreed on measures to increase cooperation on trade, culture, education and tourism, amongst others.

The two sides also discussed the land border demarcation and marker planting, the legal status of Vietnamese people living in Cambodia, and the implementation of recent agreements.

Regarding the protests held outside the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia recently, Deputy FM Vinh asked the Cambodian government to take all necessary actions to prevent a re-occurrence.

The two sides spoke highly of their close collaboration in multilateral forums such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Ayeyarwady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy, and the United Nations.

They upheld ASEAN’s common stance of maintaining peace, stability, security and safety of navigation in the East Sea; solving disputes peacefully in accordance with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea; fully and effectively implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea; and promptly devising a code of conduct in these waters.

They also agreed to improve cooperation mechanisms between the two foreign ministries and decided to hold the 5 th exchange in Vietnam at an appropriate time.
