Vietnam wins big at 4th International Olympiad of Metropolises

Vietnamese students participating for the first time in the 4th International Olympiad of Metropolises held in Moscow, Russia from August 29 to September 6 brought home three gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Hanoi city, the impressive achievements were made by eight students from the Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

Nguyen Dinh Hieu, Duong Trung Kien and Nguyen Bui Quoc Anh got gold medals in informatics and chemistry; Le Duc Khoi, Ho Phi Dung and Tran Minh Quan bagged silver medals in mathematics and physics; while bronze medals in mathematics and informatics were won by Ha Huy Khoi and Nguyen Tuan Hoang.

With the result, the Vietnamese delegation finished in second place at the competition. They also earned a silver cup in the blitz-contest, an independent competition that requires each team to solve 80 tasks in two hours.

The Olympiad of Metropolises is an annual international team competition held in Moscow for 14-18 year-old students, who live in major metropolises of the world.

The first olympiad took place in 2016 and it was attended by 173 students from 22 cities. This year event drew the participation of 45 teams from 32 countries and territories worldwide.

Each city is represented by a team of eight participants, who need to show their knowledge of physics, chemistry, mathematics and informatics.-VNA/VNP
