Vietnam, RoK extend MoU on labour cooperation

Hanoi, April 15 (VNA)- Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) on April 10 extended a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on supplying and receiving Vietnamese workers to the RoK under the Employment Permit System (EPS).

Under the MoU, 5,400 Vietnamese labourers are eligible to register for jobs in the RoK and a maximum of 2,900 of them will be chosen to work in the manufacturing and construction sectors in the host country, according to Nhan Dan (People) newspaper.

The agreement covers workers who have not been chosen by RoK employers in the past, despite passing Korean language examinations by March 2014. It also supports the reconsideration of workers who came back their homeland within the allotted time and were qualified for language efficiency after December 2011.

Vietnam now has three months and 10 days to deliver candidate files, which expire in one year, to the RoK for employers to make their selections.

This MoU, an extension of the previous one which ended on December 31, 2014, is part of Vietnam’s efforts to reduce the number of Vietnamese labourers illegally residing in the RoK.
