Vietnam records best performance at 11th ASEAN Skills Competition

Hanoi, November 11 (VNA) – Vietnam won its highest number of gold medals at the 11 th edition of the ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC) last September, an event the country first participated in 15 years ago.

Cao Van Sam, Vice General Director of the General Department of Vocational Training, made the statement at a conference in Hanoi on November 10 to review the Vietnamese team’s performance.

The ASC took place in Malaysia between September 19 and 29, with about 280 young skilled workers from 9 ASEAN member states competing in 25 occupational skills.

Securing 10 gold, five silver and four bronze medals, Vietnam finished third, behind Malaysia and Indonesia.

Vietnamese competitors brought home gold medals in team competitions in machine maintenance, electro-mechanics and electronics.

Both contestants in the bricklaying game, a strong suit for Vietnam, won gold medals.

At the function, Vice State President Dang Ngoc Thinh lauded the results, saying it reflected improvement in vocational training in Vietnam.

She expected experiences gained at the 11 th ASC will help the competitors prepare for the upcoming 44th world skills competition.

On the occasion, outstanding individuals and organisations at the regional contest were granted certificates of merit from the Prime Minister, the Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour.
