Vietnam, Laos defence ministries sign new cooperation deal

Vientiane, December 25 (VNA) – The defence ministries of Vietnam and Laos sign an agreement on their cooperation in 2016 after talks between the two defence ministers in Vientiane on December 25.

Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh is in Laos for an official visit at the invitation of his Lao counterpart Sengnouane Xayalath on December 25 and 26.

During the talks, the Vietnamese minister affirmed that the Vietnamese Party, State, people and army will do their utmost to further tighten the special friendship and mutual support between the two nations and armies.

The two ministers took the occasion to discuss issues of common interest and update each other on the socio-economic and political situations as well as the preparations for the National Party Congress in their respective countries.

They also looked back at the cooperation between the two defence ministries in 2015, and agreed that the achieved outcomes have contributed to boosting the special friendship between the two nations and the two ministries, while ensuring peace, stability and development along the shared borderline.

The partnership between the two ministries also helped timely stop illegal activities and plots to divide the friendship of the two nations, they said.

The two ministers agreed to boost delegation exchanges and experience sharing while continue with the search and collection of remains of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts, among other cooperative activities.
