Vietnam helps Laos build hospital

Vientiane, January 2 (VNA) - A ceremony took place in Laos’ Xieng Khouang province on January 2 to start construction on a hospital funded by the Vietnamese Government.

As Vietnam’s largest health infrastructure development project in northern Laos, the 2.5 ha Xieng Khouang Friendship Hospital will be built a cost of nearly 400 billion VND (17.6 million USD). It is designed to accommodate 200 beds and is equipped with modern equipment.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung stated that the project reflects the determination of the two governments to implement the Vietnam-Laos cooperation strategy in Xieng Khoang and Houaphan provinces.

Xieng Khouang Governor Somkot Mangnomek said the hospital is an invaluable gift from the Vietnamese Government and it will contribute significantly to the province’s socio-economic development as well as Laos’ health sector.

He committed the effective use of the hospital’s modern medical equipment for better health services.

On the occasion, the central province of Nghe An donated 100 million VND (4,400 USD) to the Lao province’s blood donation organisation.
