Vietnam Calls for Overseas Vietnamese to Contribute to the Country

Themed "Overseas Vietnamese join hands to build Ho Chi Minh City to develop rapidly, sustainably and with international integration”, the Overseas Vietnamese Conference 2016 held in Ho Chi Minh City attracted  500 participants who are overseas professionals, intellectuals, and businessmen from 36 countries and territories worldwide.
The meeting for overseas Vietnamese, the first of its kind held specifically for the southern city, aimed to mobilize overseas Vietnamese’s resources for Ho Chi Minh City’s transformation to a growth engine of Vietnam.

According Dr. Phan Bich Tien, a Hungarian overseas Vietnamese, member of the Vietnam National Fatherland Front’s Central Committee, the number of experts and intellectuals accounted for a large number among 4.5 million overseas Vietnamese. Therefore, Ho Chi Minh City and ministries should find clues in overseas Vietnamese abroad to connect with the country to help address hot issues of the country, such as the environment, science and technology.

Addressing the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly appreciated the delegates’ opinions, ideas, suggestions and proposals that demonstrated the love and responsibility of overseas Vietnamese for the country. He said that he was moved and felt the warmth when meeting with overseas Vietnamese who live faraway but always turn their hearts to the homeland.  He said that the presence of the overseas Vietnamese in Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s leading dynamic economic hub, affirmed the fact that Vietnam’s development potential and resources were not only confined in the S-shaped country with a total area of 330,000km2, but also in many other places around the globe. He asserted that the country always welcomes back Vietnamese descendants with warm hearts, ambitions, ideas, and resources to contribute to national construction and defense and added that the country is proud of the expatriate intellectuals who have enjoyed the best conditions to access the world’s advanced technology and knowledge and then assisted the homeland in speeding up development.

He also described overseas Vietnamese as cultural ambassadors of Vietnam who help enhance its friendship with other nations. In his speech, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc applauded efforts calling for overseas Vietnamese’s contribution to national development. As a result, many overseas Vietnamese companies have partnered with domestic firms to export Viet Nam’s products and services, or set up businesses in the homeland. A number of expatriates have been involved in research activities, scientific-technological application, education-training, and social projects.

He confirmed that the Government will always support overseas Vietnamese  around the world, encouraging them to unite, to succeed in business and life, to keep national traditions in building united Vietnamese communities in foreign countries, to support each other and promote the image of friendly, peace-loving, civilised Vietnamese people, contributing to bolstering a friendship between Vietnam and other countries.
