At the meeting with Prime Minister of Timor Leste Rui Maria de Araujo on June 2, Deputy PM Dung affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to friendship and all-around cooperation with Timor Leste, suggesting the two sides enhance the exchange of all-level visits, actively implement signed agreements, and consider negotiating and signing cooperation agreements on crime prevention, judicial assistance and bilateral investment protection.
He also asked the Timor Leste side to early complete internal procedures, towards enabling the bilateral Trade Agreement between the two countries signed in 2013 to take effect as soon as possible, and to begin promoting trade in rice.
Sharing Deputy PM Dung’s opinion, Araujo said his country is facilitating Vietnamese enterprises’ business and investment, affirming that Timor Leaste will continue creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese firms to operate in oil and gas exploration and food trading.
In their meeting on the same day, Deputy PM Dung and Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla focused their discussion on measures to promote a strategic partnership between the two nations.
Vietnam and Indonesia will maintain high-level visits and meetings, and will soon organise the 7 th meeting of the Joint Committee on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, thus devising solutions to realise the goal of 10 billion USD in two-way trade by 2018.
The Vietnam official hopes Indonesia will make it easy for Vietnamese investors to invest in the fields of petroleum, farm and aquaculture products, and join agricultural projects in Indonesia.
The two officials agreed that solidarity and cooperation within ASEAN should be fostered, thus promoting the bloc’s centre role in the region.
All disputes in the East Sea should be solved by peaceful measures, and involved parties need to engage in negotiations to conclude a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) as soon as possible, they said.
In his reception for Vincent Eck, CEO in charge of global strategy of Swiss Reinsurance (SwissRe) on the same day, Deputy PM Dung said the Vietnamese Government encourages Swiss groups to expand investment in Vietnam, especially in high-technology and high-value added services.
He hailed the effective cooperation between SwissRe and some ministries and sectors of Vietnam, and asked the group to further cooperate with Vietnam in collecting information and international experience to build a pilot model of disaster risk insurance under the national strategy on preventing disaster to 2020, as well as other insurance programmes.
