Two Vietnamese universities named among top 1,000

Two Vietnamese universities have been named among the top 1,000 universities in the world, according to the annual Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings in the UK.

They are Vietnam National University - HCM City which was ranked in the 701st-750th category, and Vietnam National University - Hanoi which is in the 801st‑1,000th group.

Four US universities – The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Harvard University, and the California Institute of Technology maintained their top positions in the rankings. They are followed by the United Kingdom’s University of Oxford.

The universities were evaluated on the basis of six criteria: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international lecturer ratio, and international student ratio.

The QS World University Rankings is an annual publication of university rankings by London-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). Being the only international ranking to have received International Ranking Expert Group (IREG) approval, the QS ranking is viewed as one of the three most widely-read university rankings in the world, along with the Academic Ranking of World Universities and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

The QS World University Rankings evaluates universities according to six metrics - Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, and Faculty/Student Ratio, as well as Citations per faculty, International Faculty Ratio, and International Student Ratio.

Earlier this year, five Vietnamese universities were listed among the best 400 Asian universities for 2018. They included Vietnam National University – Hanoi (139th), Vietnam National University - HCM City (142nd), Hanoi University of Technology (291st) and Can Tho University (in groups 301st-350th) and Hue University (group 351st-400th).
