Tunisia seeks cooperation with ASEAN countries

Jakarta, April 26 (VNA) – Tunisia is willing to boost cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries, Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Taeib Baccouche told ASEAN General Secretary Le Luong Minh on the phone.

Minister Baccouche congratulated ASEAN on reaching a consensus on creating a single regional community regardless the diversity of languages, cultures, religions, and development levels.

General Secretary Minh informed Baccouche of the formation of an ASEAN Community by the end of 2015 and underscored the importance of the Initiative for ASEAN Integration and Narrowing the Development Gap.

The General Secretary also underlined the importance of the people-centred approach to ensure that people enjoy the benefits of regional integration.

ASEAN needs cooperation from not only its members but also countries outside the association to address rising global issues, which affect people livelihoods, and promote sustainable development.
