Vietnam Strengthen Relations with Traditional Friendly Countries

From August 27 to September 7, 2013, Le Hong Anh, Poliburo member and Permanent Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam led a high-ranking delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam to visit Angola, Nicaragua and Cuba with the aim at strengthening the relations with traditional friendly countries.
The Vietnamese delegation received a warm reception from the host countries. In Cuba, during the meeting with Le Hong Anh, Raul Castro Ruz – First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the State of Council of Cuba and the Council of Ministers of Cuba affirmed that the relationship between Vietnam and Cuba over the decades is the symbol of an era and recalled the memory of the historical visit to liberated areas in Southern Vietnam by predecessor Fidel Castro four decades ago (September 1973).

The Cuban President applauded the remarkable achievements attained by Vietnam over the past years and said that the experiences of Vietnam served as a valuable example to Cuba, which is currently undergoing a period of economic update. He spoke highly of the outcomes of the first theory seminar organized between the two Parties last year and urged the two sides to carefully but promptly prepare for the next one, slated to take place in Cuba in 2014.

During the meetings with other Cuban leaders, including Second Secretary of the Cuban Party Central Committee Rose Ramon Machado Ventura, President of the Cuban Parliament Esteban Lazo and Vice President of the Cuban Council of Ministers Marino Murillo Jorge, the two sides affirmed the desire to further strengthen the solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, Assemblies and peoples, particularly in the realms of economy and trade and pledged to continue coordinating and supporting each other at international forums.

Visiting Nicaragua, Le Hong Anh had meetings with Daniel Ortega, Nicaraguan President and Party General Secretary of the Sandino National Liberation (FSLN).

President Daniel Ortega affirmed Nicaragua always attaches much importance to the relationship, solidarity, friendship and cooperation with Vietnam and wants to promote and expand cooperation on economics, trade and investment, particularly in the fields that the two sides have strength and potential, such as agriculture, telecommunications, infrastructure construction and trade.

President Daniel Ortega suggested Vietnamese enterprises visit Nicaragua to research the market and opportunities for cooperation on investment and trade exchange. He also said that he would send enterprise delegations to Vietnam to learn about agriculture, small-medium enterprise development and research of the competence and ability of cooperation of Vietnamese enterprises.

During the visit to Nicaragua, the Vietnamese delegation met Nicaraguan National Assembly Chairman Rene Nunez, attended the welcoming meeting in Managua and visited Leon Province – the cradle of the revolutionary movement in Nicaragua and many other localities.

In Angola, Le Hong Anh had a meeting with Afonso Van-Dunem, Secretary of the Central Committee for External Affairs of the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) who was grateful for the valuable support of the Vietnamese Party, State and people given to Angola, especially in education, health care and agriculture. He expressed Angola’ s desire to further enhance cooperation with Vietnam in all areas, especially in politics, economy-trade, science-technology, healthcare, education and telecommunications. He said that the Movitel network, a joint venture between the Viettel Group and partners in Mozambique, is an effective cooperation model that should be implemented in Angola.

The official visits to Cuba, Nicaragua and Angola by Le Hong Anh and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation aimed at tightening the traditional relations with traditional friendly countries and promoting bilateral cooperation in many fields, making a contribution to the development and prosperity of each country.
