UNESCO opens course to develop short films in Vietnam

UNESCO Vietnam and the Vietnam Cinema Association’s Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents (TPD) on October 4 launched a filmmaking course for young Vietnamese filmmakers.

The course, called ON THE REEL Film Lab, aims to provide basic knowledge to help young filmmakers develop short film projects, find a suitable production route and self-orient a filmmaking career.

It is organised with the companionship of the Japan Foundation Centre for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, the General Delegation Wallonia - Brussels (Belgium) in Vietnam, HK Film, WallSound, Hanoi Grapevine and Colab Vietnam.

The online course is held through October under the guidance and participation of many prestigious domestic and foreign directors and filmmakers, consisting of producer Pimpaka Towira, director Pham Ngoc Lan, director Truong Minh Quy, director Bui Kim Quy, director Trinh Dinh Le Minh.

After one month calling for entries, the organising board received nearly 100 short film projects, with six most outstanding ones selected to take part in the course.

The course is part of the project "E-MOTIONS: Mobilizing film professionals for regional cooperation", which is being conducted by UNESCO and cooperative partners, with the support from the Trust Fund of Japan. The project aims to enhance the capacity and empowerment of filmmakers, as well as organise activities to connect domestic filmmakers with their peers in the region./.
