On the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Dialogue on Heritage and Authenticity, a UNESCO delegation visited the Trang An Landscape Complex in northern Ninh Binh province on October 1.

The delegation was led by Jonathan Wallace Baker, UNESCO Representative to Vietnam, and included representatives from Asia-Pacific countries, officials from Vietnamese ministries and sectors, as well as leaders and experts from the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the UNESCO Office in Hanoi.

During the field visit, the delegation explored Trang An’s distinctive natural landscape and cultural heritage, gaining a closer look at efforts to preserve and promote the site’s outstanding universal value. The visit also provided an opportunity for participants to exchange views on heritage conservation, sustainable tourism and the balance between preservation and development.

Trang An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known for its spectacular limestone karst formations, winding waterways, caves and rich cultural heritage. The complex is widely regarded as an example of how natural and cultural values can be protected while supporting local development.

The visit followed a field trip to the Tam Chuc Landscape Complex on the afternoon of September 30. The activities formed part of the broader Asia-Pacific Dialogue on Heritage and Authenticity, which brings together heritage experts and representatives from the region to discuss challenges and approaches to safeguarding heritage in a changing world.
