To He Art Transforms Mooncakes into Flowers

Nguyen Thi Thuy Duong, 31, from Hanoi, and a team of young artisans have adapted traditional “to he” (dough figurine) molding and shaping techniques to create vivid lotus-shaped mooncakes.

The fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern baking techniques gives the Mid-Autumn Festival treat a fresh look while offering a creative new way to preserve and celebrate familiar cultural values.

Each petal is molded from to he dough, pressed thin, and hand-shaped before being assembled into a flower. This technique allows the artisan to create natural curves, delicate thinness, and lifelike contours. Photo: VNA
