A bicycle with three wheels, five seats and six metres long, almost three times bigger than a normal one attracts the attention of many people when it runs in Hanoi streets.
The bike can move easily and make many passers-by curious due to its oversized shape and different details compared to others running on the streets.
Nguyen Dinh Chien, the bike maker, who is working at the Vietnam Film Studio, said that he made the bike not to entertain any user’s fashion-liking, but for an order from customers who use it in a TV game show.
Due to its abnormal size and shape, Chien said, selecting the materials for the making of the bike’s frame is the most important step, as the would-be vehicle must be strong enough to carry five people at one time. Chien had to use nearly 100 kg of water pipes in different sizes to make the frame.
The wheel’s frame, two metres in diameter, is made of steel. Due to its oversize, the tyre is also special. Chien had to use thick rubber plate and cut it properly to fit the frame.
To increase the rubbing capacity of the tyre, he wrapped its rubber part with layers of anti-erosion canvas.

The oversized, three-wheel bicycle attracts the attention of many people when it runs on Hanoi streets.

It is easy to pedal the bike from below its frame as it is 2.5 metres tall.

Nguyen Dinh Chien makes the oversized three-wheel bike using spare parts of other normal bikes.
It has two independent moving-connected parts placed on the two back wheels.

The wheel’s diameter is two metres.

The oversized bike has three wheels, of which two back wheels are leaning to make the bike well balanced.

Thick rubber is used to make the tyre. A layer of anti-erosion wraps on the tyre’s rubber part
helps increase the rubbing capacity when the bike is moving.

The oversized, three-wheel bike was made to be used for a TV game show.

The bike is operated comfortably by two riders.

Last but not least is how to make the bike move, like any other normal bike, with the rider’s power. After eight working days, Chien and his assistants completed the three-wheel bike with two independent moving-connected parts placed on the two back wheels.
When Chien rode the bike for a test, a crowd of people came over and watched it with curiosity. To ride such a huge bike was not easy at all. Having three wheels, it was always kept well balanced, however, the rider sitting in the front seat had to spend a lot of effort in riding it in the right direction.
Originally the bike was over three metres tall, each time the rider prepared to pedal, it turned to one side. To solve the problem, Chien had to shorten the length of the frame and finally fixed it at 2.5 metres tall.
Watching the users to ride the bike comfortably, Chien said he was so happy.
“Making props for a game show is not easy at all, and it is rare to receive such an interesting order. Besides receiving a good fee, I am so happy to make such a strange product, which is loved by my customers,” Chien confided.
