Vietnam Calls for Peace and Stability in the East Sea
This is the first time Vietnam has been invited to attend the expanded G7 Summit that marked the recognisation of Vietnam’s role in and contribution to the regional and global issues.
The expanded G7 Summit draws the participation of leaders of G7 member countries. Vietnam, Indonesia, Laos, Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka and Chad and international organizations, such as the United Nations (UN), the World Bank (WB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are invited guests. |
Addressing the expanded G7 Summit, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed Vietnam’s stance in peace, stability and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region in particular and the world in general.
The Prime Minister said that countries, especially G7 countries raised their voice and have practical actions to actively contribute to consolidating the environment of peace and stability as well as the settlement of common issues in the region and the world, particularly sustainable development goals, infrastructure ramp-up, disaster prevention, climate change response, anti-terrorism and food and water resources security.
He expressed his strong belief in the G7 member countries’ important role in shoring up global economic recovery, trade and investment connectivity as well as effectively dealing with global development challenges for a peaceful and stable environment in the Asia-Pacific region and in the world.
Regarding the East Sea issue, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hailed the countries’ active stance and support for Vietnam and ASEAN to settle disputes by peaceful means in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); ensure maritime and aviation safety and security in the East Sea; contribute to maintaining peace, stability for prosperity and development in the region and the world.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had bilateral meetings with leaders and heads of countries and international organisations, including the French President, Canadian Prime Minister, UK Prime Minister, German Chancellor, US President, Italian Prime Minister, UN Secretary-General, President of the EU Commission, President of the EU Council, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund and President of the World Bank.
