President’s India and Bangladesh visits reap successes

President Tran Dai Quang’s freshly concluded state visits to India and Bangladesh were successful in all areas, said Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Dinh Quy.
Answering reporters’ questions about outcomes of President Quang’s visits to India and Bangladesh from March 2-6, the official said the President and Indian and Bangladeshi leaders reached a consensus on major orientations to enhance relations between Vietnam and the two nations.

In his state visit to India, President Tran Dai Quang met with Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He hosted receptions for Speaker of the Lower House of India’s Parliament Sumitra Mahajan, Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj, and leaders of political parties and the Vietnam-India Friendship Association.
The President’s Indian trip has helped materialise contents of the Vietnam-India comprehensive strategic partnership while strengthening the bilateral relationship. Meanwhile, the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Bangladesh has also been lifted to a new height more effectively, Quy said.


Through their discussions, the leaders and delegations of Vietnam, India and Bangladesh understood more clearly their countries’ important role in the respective countries’ foreign policies, he noted.


At the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library in New Delhi, President Tran Dai Quang delivered a speech to 300 Indian politicians, professors, researchers, scholars and students.
The leaders agreed on pragmatic measures with focus on connectivity, firstly between citizens, especially businesspeople, then aviation and navigation links, the official said.

Quy further explained that the connectivity helps bring Vietnam closer to Dhaka and New Delhi while tapping the cooperation potential between Vietnam and the two nations, for the sake of their people, and for peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
 
President Tran Dai Quang’s state visit to Bangladesh took place during the 45th anniversary of the Vietnam-Bangladesh diplomatic relation. During his visit, President Quang met with Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid and held talks with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He also hosted receptions for the Speaker of the Parliament of Bangladesh and the Chairman of the Workers Party of Bangladesh, and attended the opening ceremony of “Vietnamese cultural days in Bangladesh”. 
Asked about President Quang’s speech before Indian politicians, professors, researchers, scholars and students at the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library in New Delhi, Quy said the leader sent a message that Vietnam and India enhance their comprehensive strategic partnership for  more prosperous and developed Indo-Pacific and Asian regions, for common interests of all regional countries, and for peace and stability in the world.

During his visits, along with seeking measures to step up bilateral ties in the future, the President met with representatives from different sectors, especially those who are involved in the relationship, to review the foundations of those relations, Quy stressed.
 

On March 4, President Tran Dai Quang, his wife and a high-ranking delegation arrived in Dhaka, starting their state visit

Regarding economic, trade and investment links between Vietnam, India and Bangladesh, Quy said he firmly believes that potential for economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and the two countries, which are developing rapidly with annual GDP growth rate exceeding 7 percent in recent years, will be tapped in the future if they know how to turn political determination and connectivity efforts into reality and utilise opportunities generated by globalisation.
 


Vietnam - Bangladesh relations have been enhanced in many areas. Bangladesh expects to tighten the bilateral trade relation to raise the trade value between the two countries to 1 billion US dollars.
