Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited workers in the northern port city of Hai Phong on January 30 ahead the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet), the biggest and most important annual holiday in Vietnam.
The PM said the Party and State always pay attention to the implementation of policies to take better care of workers, both materially and spiritually.
He hailed the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour for organising activities to care for trade unionists and employees, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds and social welfare families.
Its spring programme has helped workers in industrial and processing parks nationwide enjoy a warm Tet holiday over the past years, he noted.
Earlier the same day, PM Phuc had a working session with municipal authorities, during which he extolled the city for fulfilling their socio-economic development plans for 2018.
Specifically, Hai Phong led the country in the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth, at 16.27 percent, the highest level so far and 2.3 times the nation’s average level (7.08 percent).
The local economic structure was much better with the establishment of some high-tech agricultural parks, while all communes in Hai Phong were recognised as new rural areas.
The city also took the lead in industrial production, especially in automobile manufacturing.
These outcomes have laid an important foundation for Hai Phong to set higher targets and make stronger strides in the coming time, PM Phuc said, suggesting the city promote social investment for further development.
