A cultural and artistic exchange programme jointly organised by the northern province of Ninh Binh and Jeju City of the Republic of Korea took place at the Pham Thi Tran Theatre in Ninh Binh on October 31, featuring performances that highlighted the cultural heritage of both localities and strengthened people-to-people ties between the two countries.
The highlight of the programme was a presentation of Jeju Haenyeo Culture, recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The performances introduced audiences to the traditions of Jeju's female divers, known as haenyeo, who have long made their living by diving into the sea to collect seafood without using breathing equipment.
The haenyeo tradition reflects not only the islanders' close connection with the sea but also their courage, resilience, strong community bonds and respect for nature. Passed down through generations, the culture remains an important part of Jeju's identity and way of life.
The programme also featured artistic performances and cultural exchanges, offering audiences an opportunity to learn more about the distinctive traditions and cultural values of the two localities. Through music, dance and traditional art forms, the event provided a platform for artists and residents to share their cultural identities and build mutual understanding.
The exchange was part of efforts to expand cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between Ninh Binh and Jeju City. It also helped promote the cultural heritage of both sides while creating opportunities for further cooperation in tourism and other fields.
The event underscored the role of cultural diplomacy in strengthening ties between Viet Nam and the Republic of Korea, fostering friendship and bringing the people of the two countries closer together.
