As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, Hoi An comes alive with the warm glow of colorful lanterns. The town’s narrow streets, ochre-yellow old houses and slow pace create a unique atmosphere that draws visitors back each year to enjoy the full-moon night.

On the festival night, Hoi An takes on a different look. Instead of bright city lights, the ancient town glows with the soft colors of countless lanterns. As the last sunlight fades over the Hoai River, the streets grow quiet, waiting for the full moon to rise.
Under the moonlight, the town’s centuries-old, moss-covered houses seem to come alive. Traditional lanterns hang from eaves and line the winding streets. Diamond-, pumpkin-, garlic- and dragon-shaped silk lanterns cast a soft glow. Red, yellow and orange blend with the town’s signature yellow walls and bougainvillea swaying in the breeze.
