The official friendship visit to Vietnam of Chairman of the Workers’ Party and the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un from March 1-2 has set a historic milestone in the history of the two parties and countries.
Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong on March 1 hosted a welcoming ceremony for DPRK Chairman Kim Jong-un at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi, the highest formal recognition for a head of state.
The welcoming ceremony was followed by talks between the two leaders, where Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed DPRK Chairman Kim Jong-un to Vietnam.
Congratulating the DPRK people on their great achievements in national development, the Vietnamese leader believed that under the leadership of the Workers’ Party of the DPRK, they will reap even greater achievements in socialism building.

The Vietnamese top leader stated that Vietnam wants to further intensify ties between the two parties and countries for the benefit of the two peoples, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
During his visit, the DPRK leader also met with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and visited a photo exhibition on Vietnam-DPRK relations held by the Vietnam News Agency.
In his meeting with the DPRK Chairman, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that Vietnam consistently supports a Korean peninsula of peace, stability, cooperation and development. He hailed the efforts of the DPRK and the US at the second DPRK-USA Summit.

Visiting the photo exhibition on Vietnam-DPRK relations, Chairman Kim Jong-un was touched by a photo showing President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Kim Il-sung in Pyongyang during the former’s first visit to the DPRK, saying this photo is of great value.
Vietnam-DPRK two-way trade reached 8 million US dollars in 2014 and 11.6 million US dollars in 2015. Vietnam exported to the DPRK a value of 2.99 million US dollars in 2016; 7.322 million US dollars in 2017; and 497,000 US dollars in the first nine months of 2018. |
