the Huong River Museum of Ancient Pottery, a unique museum owned by Professor Thai Kim Lan, has become a favorite destination for tourists both at home and abroad.

the Huong River Museum of Ancient Pottery, a unique museum owned by Professor Thai Kim Lan, has become a favorite destination for tourists both at home and abroad. 

The private museum houses nearly 5,000 ancient pottery artifacts, including some valuable artifacts dating from the pre-Sa Huynh culture, about 2,500 - 3,000 years ago. This is the first and only private museum in Vietnam dedicated exclusively to ancient ceramic artifacts found in a river.

The Huong River Museum of Ancient Pottery is the result of the lifelong dedication and passion of Prof. Thai Kim Lan and her elder brother, late painter Thai Nguyen Ba, who spent nearly 40 years collecting and preserving pottery artifacts from the Huong River and other rivers in Hue. Talking about her aspiration, Prof. Lan said that this private museum could be considered a “primary school” about Vietnamese history and culture, passing on knowledge to the next generation. 

Covering about 700m2, the museum showcases over 5,000 artifacts, including a diverse range of everyday items such as stoves, jars, vases, bowls, and plates made from different materials like fired clay, glazed ceramics, and porcelain. The majority of which are found on the Huong River and date back to the Cham and Sa Huynh and other cultures. 

The museum contributes to providing visitors with more choices when they come to Hue. It has become a cultural rendezvous where its owners welcome and share interesting stories and ideas about traditional culture with friends who love Hue from all over the world./.
