Dreaming with Dep Fashion Show 9

Themed “Dreaming”, Dep Fashion Show 9 held at the Garden Centre in Hanoi was considered a meeting of dreams on the catwalk. The show was sponsored by Dep Magazine, a supplement of Vietnam Pictorial.

Like previous Dep Fashion Shows, models did not look like mobile dolls but they acted as real artists thanks to their facial and body expressions. They led viewers into a world of dreams via the impressive debut of five collections by five famous fashion designers.
The fashion show started with the collection entitled “Dream” by designer Hoang Ngan in which all designs were made from silk, satin, taffeta, velvet, linen and cotton, followed by the “Nomadic” collection by Juliane Kunze (Germany), the only foreign designer. Overwhelmed by red and other hot colours, such as pink, purple and dark green, the collection was inspired by nomadic girls, flamenco dancers and bull-fighters.

Unlike the above two collections, Kelly Bui’s “Supernatural World” brought about surprises and was performed like a modern dance show. All modes were stylized with shoes and spiked hair, showing the strong character of the designer. On the contrary, designer Do Manh Cuong’s “Cloud” collection presented romantic white modes that looked like clouds floating on the catwalk and the “Story” collection by designer Luu Anh Tuan consisted of mysterious and beautiful modes that harmoniously blended western and mysterious oriental styles.

Fashion Show 9 included three different segments, “Dream of spreading the sails to head for the sea”, “Waking up” and ‘Interfered reality” that brought the viewers from this dream to others via five collections. Each collection was a dream, each different from others but in a perfect whole. The fashion show satisfied fashion enthusiasts with not only the garments but also the harmony of all factors and art forms. Particularly, the clever combination between fashion and other artistic forms, such as circus acts, dancing, body language and audio/visual installations all helped highlight the beauty of all collections.
According to director Le Vu Long, “Dreaming” followed the principle of Dep Fashion Show that every show is different from the others. It showed the creativeness and strong personality of the director. The language of dancing, circus acts and body drama was used to convey the content of the stories. Electric sounds seemed to bring about great effects and created light shocks and vocals by a female singer in the two sections of white dream were also very interesting.
Dep Fashion Show 9 was not only a great fashion event but also an excellent artistic show, bringing the viewers to many lands with different cultures via dreams expressed by the languages of fashion and contemporary art and helping them discover strange dreams of Dep Fashion Show as well as their dreams.
