Bridget March “A Window on Vietnam”

The exhibition titled “A Window on Vietnam” in VinGallery in Ho Chi Minh City by Bridget March, an British artist, gave everyone an insight into Vietnam’s old windows and to care more deeply about the way they reflect Vietnam’s history and culture.
Bridget March was born in England but she has nurtured a deep love for Vietnam. Having lived in Vietnam for more than three years, she always spends time travelling and painting. The artist has so far organised many exhibitions and published two painting books on Sapa and Hoi An. She is planning to publish another about Saigon called “Sensational Saigon”.

Notably,  she recently displayed the best Vietnamese window works she painted during her stay in Vietnam. To her, what makes the urban and rural landscapes of Vietnam distinctively different from anywhere else are the windows and doors of buildings that line our streets. One of the interesting things Bridget enjoys about painting Vietnamese windows is that a single window frame can sometimes be a combination of different cultures from different countries. For example, it could be a Chinese-style patterned window with the French-style air vents, or a Vietnamese window next to an American chain fence, something she said could be found nowhere but in Vietnam.

Despite being busy with work, Bridget still teaches painting to foreigners who are living and working in Vietnam. She has so far taught 50 students who love painting and preserving their wonderful time in Vietnam.
