PM requests faster construction of Mekong Delta residential clusters

Hanoi, April 25 (VNA) – The Prime Minister has requested acceleration of the second stage of a programme to build flood-proof residential clusters in the Mekong Delta through 2020.

Since its launch 14 years ago, the programme has offered housing to nearly 200,000 households.

In the next stage to 2020, 178 residential clusters and areas have been protected by reinforced embankments, to house over 49,500 households, including 27,100 households relocated from flood-prone areas.

Up to 90 percent of the clusters’ infrastructure has been done.

The PM asked the Ministry of Construction to direct localities to conclude required infrastructure items this year as scheduled.

He also agreed with proposed three-year debt payment rescheduling for impoverished and near-impoverished households who borrowed money from the Vietnam Development Bank to buy residential land during the project’s first stage.
