New Zealand enhances military ties with Vietnam

Hanoi , September 11 (VNA) – New Zealand ’s army is keen to boost cooperation with its Vietnamese counterpart in a number of fields, such as maritime security, cyber-security, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

It was also willing to share its experiences in joining the United Nations’ peace-keeping missions, Daniel Mellsop, Head of the International Affairs Department under the Ministry of Defence, said to Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh during a reception in Hanoi on September 11.

Senior Lieutenant General Vinh called on the two countries’ militaries to intensify cooperation, increase delegation exchanges, uphold bilateral defence dialogues, and work together closely at multilateral forums.

Daniel Mellsop also had a working session with the Department of External Affairs under the Vietnam Ministry of Defence to review bilateral defence cooperation in 2014 and devise instructions for stronger ties next year./.
