NA leader hopes for Russian diplomat’s contributions to bilateral ties

Hanoi, June 8 (VNA) – National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan received Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Constatin Vnukov in Hanoi on June 8, during which she hoped that the diplomat will contribute more to the cooperation between the two countries and the two legislative bodies.

She spoke of the importance of the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, which has been nurtured by generations of the two countries’ leaders and people and reflected through regular visits and meetings.

The most recent official visit to Russia and to attend the ASEAN-Russia Summit made by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc helped boost bilateral ties, especially in politics, economics, trade, defence, security and culture, she stated.

Vietnam considers Russia a priority in its foreign policies, and always attaches importance to the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, she affirmed.

The top legislator appreciated Russia’s ratification of the free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) with Vietnam, saying that the agreement will open up new opportunities for cooperation between Vietnam and Russia as well as between Vietnam and other EAEU nations, especially in economics, trade and investment.

She expressed her hope that the two countries’ parliaments will continue cooperation in times to come.

She also conveyed her invitations to Speaker of the Federation Council (Upper House) Valentina Matviyenko and Speaker of the State Duma (Lower House) Sergei Naryshki to pay official visits to Vietnam at an appropriate time.

Ambassador Constatin Vnukov suggested establishing friendship parliamentarian groups after the State Duma election in September, to intensify the legislative bodies’ relations.

He said that once it becomes effective, the Vietnam-EAEU free trade agreement will create favourable conditions for economic and trade ties between Russia and Vietnam.
