Laos learns from Vietnam’s economic experience

Vientiane, September 24 (VNA) – Head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission Vuong Dinh Hue shared the remarkable achievements Vietnam made in macro-economic management in a workshop in Vientiane on September 24.

He said Vietnam successfully maintained its average annual growth of 5.64 percent between 2011 and 2013, higher than the growth rates recorded in other ASEAN members during that time.

Last year, the country’s per capita income was approximately 1,908 USD, while inflation slowed to 6.04 percent.

The achievements were attributed to the economic restructuring process for rapid and sustainable development, transforming Vietnam from a receiver of international aid over the past 20 years into an international development partner, he added.

During the workshop, he also talked about the role of his commission in consulting leaders about important socio-economic issues.

Head of the Lao Party Central Committee’s Commission for Economic Development Bouasone Bouphavanh said the experience was particularly useful for Laos and its contributions to the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community by 2015.
