The 132nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132) took place in Hanoi on five consecutive days (from March 28 to April 1, 2015) with a full agenda including more than 30 plenary sessions and activities on the side lines.

IPU-132 involved the participation of more than 1,600 delegates from 133 countries and 23 international and regional parliamentary organisations. It was a significant event of international stature held in Vietnam for the first time.

Themed “Sustainable Development Goals: Turning Words into Action”, IPU-132 was highly approved by parliamentarians. Participants also offered constructive input and amendments to complete draft resolutions for the Assembly to adopt with the aim of raising IPU’s increasingly powerful voice in the international community.

Evaluating Vietnam’s contributions as the host of the IPU-132, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Saber Chowdhury claimed that Vietnam played an important role in the success of the Assembly, from preparation to actively proposing opinions in discussion forums.

Vietnam’s parliamentary delegation fully and actively took part in the Assembly’s sittings, debates, consultations and side events. The sharing of parliamentary activities of  Vietnamese delegation was the lessons and experiences for IPU members.

President Saber Chowdhury emphasised that “Hanoi Declaration” - the most important document adopted by the Assembly in Hanoi and proposed by Vietnam’s National Assembly - is of great significance and will be submitted to the United Nations General Assembly to contribute to setting the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals. It is an imprint reflecting Vietnam’s notable contributions to the international community.
