Hanoi, December 16 (VNA) – Nearly 200 photos, documents and objects on the typical culture of Vietnamese Buddhism were put on display at an exhibition in Hanoi on December 16.

The event, the first of its kind, commenced a series of activities under a project on defining the orientation for developing distinctive robes, architecture, language and culture of Vietnam’s Buddhism heritage, which has been approved by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council.

The exhibition was held with the aim of giving the public and followers a better understanding about traditional Buddhist values in Vietnam, said Most Venerable Thich Trung Hau, head of the VBS Central Committee’s Culture Commission.

The exhibits include national treasures such as a wooden Buddhist statue dating back to the Oc Eo civilization (the 4th-5th century), two stone Buddhist statues created in the 15 th century in the relic site of Nham Duong pagoda (northern Hai Duong province), and a bronze statue of Buddha Sakyamuni, he added.
