Election preparations on schedule: Ministry of Home Affairs

Lam Dong, May 9 (VNA) – Preparations for the upcoming general elections have gone according to plan and on schedule at all central agencies, provinces and cities, the Ministry of Home Affairs reported at a meeting in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong on May 9.

The meeting was held to update officials from 16 provinces and cities in the Central and Central Highlands region on the progress of preparatory work for the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and all-level local People’s Councils for the 2016-2021 term.

According to the MoHA’s report, consultation rounds to nominate candidates have been held in line with the law.

Work to ensure security, order and safety for the elections is done in detail, with the political and security situation in localities stable.

At the meeting, representatives of central agencies answered questions and assisted localities in dealing with arising difficulties.

According to statistics, 63 provincial election committees, 712 district election committees and 11,162 communal election committees have been formed. There are 184 constituencies for the NA elections and 87,805 constituencies for People’s Council elections at all levels. One election group is established for each polling station, totalling 91,221 groups across the country.

The MoHA asked localities to continue with preparations for the election day while increasing public communications campaigns, holding candidate-voter meetings and enhancing measures to ensure security and order.

The official election day is May 22.
